Roxanne Wegman Triumphs Again at the Cville Half Marathon

In a display of sheer grit and determination, Roxanne Wegman, member of the Cavalier Masters swim team and Ironman competitor, once again left her mark on the Charlottesville Half Marathon, emerging victorious in the 23rd edition of the prestigious event. The seasoned runner conquered the challenging course with remarkable finesse, crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 1 hour and 35 minutes.



Wegman's stellar performance didn't go unnoticed as she clinched the top spot in her division, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with in the running community. Her remarkable feat also saw her claim the impressive title of 4th female overall, further underscoring her prowess on the track. Not content with merely dominating her division, Roxanne soared to an exceptional 10th place overall among all competitors, leaving spectators and fellow runners in awe of her remarkable achievement.


Reflecting on her triumph, Roxanne shared her sentiments, emphasizing the significance of the event in her journey as a runner. "This event holds a special place in my heart," she remarked. "I won it in 2022 after a difficult surgery recovery, and I enjoyed running for fun this year. Coming back to Cville feels like coming home."


The Cville Half Marathon is renowned for its demanding, hilly course, which winds its way through downtown streets, riverine paths of Darden Towe, and the steep roads of surrounding neighborhoods. Despite the arduous terrain, Wegman found solace in the vibrant community spirit of Charlottesville, which never fails to infuse the event with high energy and camaraderie.


"We had perfect weather," Roxanne enthused, highlighting the ideal conditions that further propelled her towards success. "It's a testament to the strength and determination of all who participate, and the mantra the race director repeated on the start line on race morning to inspire all: 'Challenges make Champions.'"
